How video transcription works

From a video link to text in three steps

1

Paste your video URL

Paste a TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, Threads, LinkedIn, X or Bluesky link. Any public video from those platforms works.

2

We transcribe it

Speech recognition turns the audio into text in 99+ languages. Bulk jobs run in parallel, so results start arriving in seconds. The caption, plus views and likes where the platform shows them, is saved with each one.

3

Read your transcript

The transcript shows up in your dashboard. Copy it, or download it as subtitles, a Word file or a spreadsheet.

In their own words

Real feedback from creators using ReelScribe.

I just love the app. I also love that you're not consistently pushing for a subscription and that your cost makes sense. It's so smooth and easy, I haven't found a single glitch.

Jacobo Guajardo

I mainly use Reelscribe for competitor research, market analysis, and content inspiration. The platform makes it much easier to understand how different creators’ videos are performing by bringing together useful information such as views, likes, shares, engagement metrics, transcripts, and script ideas in one place.

My usual workflow is to study successful content within my niche, understand why certain videos are performing well, and then use those insights as inspiration to create original content and stronger scripts for my own page. The combination of performance data, AI analysis, transcription, and script generation has been extremely useful and saves a significant amount of manual research time.

Overall, Reelscribe has become a very useful part of my content workflow. It helps me analyse the market, identify what is working for other creators, find inspiration, and turn those insights into better content ideas and scripts much more efficiently.

I use it to get an exact transcript of educational YouTube videos and instagram reels. I need to have the exact words with the text being punctuated for an easier read though. ReelScribe is perfect for that. It is fast, easy and does the job well. It even writes 99% of spoken words correctly.

I use these transcript texts for my journaling and research. I make notes in Obsidian.

Video transcription FAQ

What people ask before their first transcript

Copy the Reel link (in the Instagram app: tap the share icon, then Copy link), paste it into the box at the top of this page and start the transcription. ReelScribe transcribes the spoken audio and shows you the text. You do not need to download the video.

The accuracy depends on audio quality, speaker clarity, and background noise levels.

A Reel with music but no talking has no words to transcribe. Loud music under the voice, fast speech, brand names and numbers are where a transcript most often needs a quick check before you publish it. If a transcription fails, its credit goes back to your balance automatically.

TikTok, YouTube (videos and Shorts), Instagram (Reels and video posts), Facebook, Threads, LinkedIn, X and Bluesky. Paste a link from any of them and ReelScribe detects the platform on its own.

Public Reels and video posts. Videos from private accounts cannot be transcribed, and photo posts have no audio to transcribe.

Yes. The Reel's caption, hashtags and mentions are saved next to the transcript, so you can copy the whole post in one place.

Usually seconds for a short video, longer for a long one. Bulk jobs run in parallel, so results start arriving in seconds.

Yes. ReelScribe supports 99+ languages, including English, Spanish, German, French, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Portuguese, and many more. The language is detected automatically, and the transcript comes out in the language spoken in the video.

Without an account you can run one test transcript every 24 hours and see a preview of up to 40 words, for videos up to 10 minutes long. LinkedIn and Bluesky links need a free account. Every new account gets 25 free credits on signup and unlocks the full text. After that, monthly plans start at $4.99/month for 400 credits, up to Enterprise at $59.99/mo for 10,000. Each credit transcribes one video.

Yes, with an account. Paste a batch of Reel links or upload a CSV file; the free plan takes 25 links at a time. On paid plans you can also transcribe the Reels of a whole Instagram profile.

One video URL per line. A 'url' header row is optional, and Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, Threads, LinkedIn, X, and Bluesky links can be mixed in the same file. Duplicates and URLs you've already transcribed are skipped automatically, and a ready-made sample file shows the exact format. Download the sample CSV

Yes. ReelScribe runs in your web browser, so there is nothing to install. It works in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android.

Open your dashboard, find the transcript and click the download icon (on a phone, tap the ⋯ menu). Pick a format and your browser saves the file to your Downloads folder, the same place as anything else you download. If you only need the text, the Copy button puts it on your clipboard instead.

Word (.docx) or Text (.txt) if you want to read or edit the transcript. CSV if you want it in Excel or Google Sheets. SRT or VTT for subtitles in a video editor. JSON if you are a developer feeding it into another tool.

Yes. Tick the checkbox on each transcript you want (or select all), then pick a format in the toolbar. Spreadsheet (CSV) is one file with a row per video: transcript, caption, views and likes. Files (ZIP) is a folder with each transcript as a .txt file, plus two .json data files per video (details and timestamps) that only developers need.
